It can be hard to get used to living in California. It’s alright to feel unhappy or unsettled. It might be because you are living in a foreign country far from your friends and family. You might feel drained and tired, or stressed even if you don’t have a lot of homework. You might feel like you’ll never get all the coursework done. Maybe you’ve noticed feelings of loneliness or homesickness, or changes in eating and sleeping habits. Maybe you wanted to find lifelong friends, but your roommate isn’t very friendly. If this sounds familiar, then it’s a good idea to talk to someone about what’s on your mind.
Counseling Services
As part of the UC Davis wellness program, students can schedule appointments with Counseling Services. The Counseling Services office is an on-campus office that was created to serve you, the student. They are a confidential office, which means that you can tell them literally everything. They have on-hand professionals prepared to meet about the following topics:- Academic Problems

- Anxiety
- Career Concerns
- Concerns with Alcohol/Drug Use
- Conflict Resolution
- Depression
- Eating Disorders
- Family Problems
- Identity Concerns
- Loneliness
- Personal Development

Counseling Groups
In addition, there are counseling groups to help students deal with stress, assertiveness, self-esteem, shyness, intimacy, loss and eating concerns. Counseling groups are a great way to meet with other students dealing with similar problems. Groups typically consist of 4-10 students meeting weekly and are available to all registered UC Davis students. The following groups are currently offered:- Career Exploration Groups

- Groups Specifically for Graduate Students
- Groups Specifically for Undergraduate Students
- Identity and Growth Support Groups
- Stress and Wellness Groups
- Sport Psychology Workshops

Community Advising Network (CAN)
The Community Advising Network (CAN) is a diverse group of professional staff who provide free consultations, counseling and other mental health services to UC Davis students. These counselors work closely with many of the resources on campus for underrepresented student populations, including the Women’s Resource and Research Center, the Cross Cultural Center, the LGBTQIARC, and departments in ethnic studies.Looking for a way to reduce stress?
